Welcome to Congleton Ramblers

Celebrating 50 years of Rambling in 2023

About the photographs

The top picture shows some members on top of Black Hill, in the Peak District.

The second photograph is of Parkhouse Hill, taken from the top of Chrome Hill, 2 distinctive hills in the Peak District near Longnor - and yes we do walk up and down them!

The third picture is of the Three Shires Head where Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet and shows the ancient packhorse bridge. This was supposed to be a meeting point for smugglers as the many routes allowed for a quick escape from the authorities!

These just give you an idea of where you could find yourself if you come on a walk with the club. There are many other fantastic scenes out there for you to discover - see the Picture-Gallery page for some more photographs of our walks.

Why You Should Join Our Club

We are a friendly Cheshire walking club (part of the Ramblers) based in Congleton covering the local towns of Sandbach, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel, Alsager, Wheelock and Goostrey.

We are privileged to live in a wonderful country with outstanding beauty on our doorstep. Many people simply do not realise the variety of landscapes that we have here in the UK, all of which are stunning and the envy of other countries.

Based in Congleton we are fortunate to be able to walk in many different and varied places  either from our weekly day trips or our weekends away where we journey further afield. Places like the Peak District, Shropshire, Wales, Yorkshire and the Lake District are all venues that the club goes to in one form or another.

There is nothing like going for a walk in the countryside to blow away the cobwebs and leave you invigorated for the rest of the week.

Walking in a group is a good way to meet other people and talk. However, it is also worth highlighting that you can also find your own space so there is always quiet time to think if you want that too.

If you already walk on your own or in a small group - how about joining a club?

As well as meeting new people, you might see some new walks that you were not aware of.  Plus you could share your walks with others by leading a walk yourself.

We do not have huge numbers on each walk so there is normally no major issue with long queues waiting to cross stiles etc.

What is there to lose? .... Give it a try.
